Bret McGatlin, Chatfield Senior High Varsity Head Coach, Program General Manager

Hello Charger Nation!  This year marks my 11th year as head coach and a physical education teacher here at Chatfield Senior High and overall this will be my 17th year of teaching and coaching.  I graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1995 where I played football, basketball and baseball. From 1995-2000 I attended Adams State University and played Wide Receiver for the Grizzlies while pursuing my Bachelors degree in Exercise Physiology and Leisure Science.  In 2004, I earned my masters degree in School administration from the University of Phoenix.  Coaching football is my true calling and passion. Growing up with a father that was a football coach I spent my childhood looking up to kids, and later young men that he coached. Outside of football my first priority is my beautiful and loving family. My wife Tracy and I have 3 pretty amazing children.  Blake, 17, will be a senior at Chatfield this year and will be heading to the Marines after graduation.  Ella, age 10 will be in the 5th grade and loves playing golf and volleyball.  Kenzey, Age 9, loves playing softball and basketball.  As always, I need to make it a point thank my beautiful wife Tracy.  I know I drive her crazy with the stress, time and focus on football. She has been incredibly supportive of me pursuing my dreams. And I'm pretty sure she loves all these players as much as I do - thank you Tracy!
Lets make it a great year!!
GO Chargers!!
Coach McGatlin

Coach Bergdale begins his tenth year at Chatfield. This year, he will assist with the runningbacks. This will also be his tenth year teaching English at Chatfield. He is supported in his coaching and teaching efforts by his wife Mary and his two grandsons Carter and Lucas.

Will Burger, Quarterbacks

The 2016 season will be my 13th year coaching football at Chatfield Senior High School and my 10th leading the quarterbacks.  Previously, I was the offensive coordinator for the freshman level.  I am a graduate of Bear Creek High School class of 1989, where I played football and baseball.  I was extremely blessed to have earned a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Denver, before completing my studies at Metropolitan State College.  For the past 2 years, I have been working as a Strategic Buyer for a global EPC firm specializing in mining and process facilities construction.  Family is the backbone to my life.  My lovely wife Cheryl and my two wonderful children, Morgan age 16 and Evan age 13, give me the support and drive to continue what I love to do, coach.  It is because of them that I get to be involved with the lives of all the great boys and girls who have come through the Chatfield football program. Let’s go Chargers!!! Coach Will Burger

Sam Stratton, Varsity Assistant (Quarterbacks, BIO TO COME)

Josh Schaeffer , Varsity Assistant

This is my 2nd year of coaching football at Chatfield. I graduated from Green Mountain High School in 2005. While at Green Mountain, I played baseball & football all 4 years and received All-Conference honors as a defensive back and GMHS athlete of the year award in 2005. I graduated from Colorado State University in 2009 where I majored in Construction Management and met my wife, Tiffany. Currently I work for a construction consulting company assisting general contractors across the country. Tiffany and I have been married for 2 years, and I am grateful that she lets me coach. I think she enjoys it just as much as I do! I enjoy coaching for the challenge of helping the kids develop and being a positive influence on their life. Outside of football I enjoy camping with my wife and our two dogs (Gunner & Quincy), fishing, golfing, and competitions of any kind. I am excited to see what the 2016 season brings!

Mike “Gordo” Gordon, Offensive Line

I'm beyond excited to be starting my 10th year as a coach here at CSH and my 6th year here as a social studies teacher. I graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1998 after winning a state title & earning individual honors as an offensive lineman. After graduation I spent a number of years running a family business before changing my path drastically, selling that business & becoming a coach & teacher. I currently hold a BA in History & am working towards my MA in American History. Football & working with young people are amongst my life's great passions. I genuinely love my students an players & have developed quite a few life long friendships with them. Off the field & outside the classroom I love to read, work out & further develop my skills in one of my other passions as a professional photographer. But more than anything I love every minute I get to spend with my beautiful wife Terra. I owe Terra a great debt of gratitude for so graciously allowing me to dedicate so much time away from home to my passion for this game and these young people.
With love & gratitude,
Michael "Gordo" Gordon

Don McGatlin, Running Backs

Coach McGatlin has a long and distinguished history as a football coach and is the father and Chief Inspiration to Chatfield’s Head Coach, Bret.  Coach "Mac"  was a 2-time State Championship Coach for Football and 3-time State Champion for Track at Green Mountain High School before leaving his ranch in Lakewood to “retire” in a more sprawling ranch in Rush, Colorado.  Coach Mac also hosts the CSH Freshmen each year for a life-changing retreat "Coyote" camp.

Wes Keene, Varsity Assistant

I am a 1983 Graduate of Belleville East High. 2 yr Varsity Letterman 1988 Graduate of Murray State 4 year letterman.
Proud father of 3 Trey, Kailey and Dalton (senior Chatfield Senior High Virginia Tech commit), and a lovely wife of 20 years Stacy!

Dan Shaffer, Varsity Assistant

This is my 10th year coaching football here at Chatfield.  I have coached in all 3 phases in the past, but am excited to be much more involved on the offensive side of the ball this year.  I graduated from Green Mountain High School in 2000, where I was fortunate to win a State Championship playing for long-time legendary coach Don McGatlin (check the sidelines for the guy in the cowboy hat).  I was also honored to be selected as a team captain and play fullback for Fisher Deberry at the United States Air Force Academy from 2000-2004 where I earned my BS in Management.  Since graduating I've worked with nuclear missiles in the Air Force, spent 6 years at Lockheed Martin, spent 2.5 years as a consultant, and currently work for an IT Security firm located downtown.  The coaches listed above and others before them had a profound impact on my life and helping me develop into who I am today.  This the reason I coach.  I firmly believe that the lessons learned while playing football can help our young men develop into the husband, fathers, and leaders our country needs in the future.  Other than football, my beautiful wife Tara and 19-month old daughter Nora are my biggest passions in life.  As coach Deberry would say...Faith, Family, and Football.  These are the priorities I seek to live my life by.  Lastly, football season is a lot of hard work for the coaches and players, and we can't get where we want to go without your positive support.  Thanks for being there to provide that for us.  Looking forward to a great season.  Go Chargers!

Mike Eismont, Running Backs

I have a 7yr old son full time that started 2nd grade this year. I truly want o give back to the program and teach these young men life lessons through football. Those HS years were building blocks in my life and they made me into who I am.  I want them to be ahead in life mentally. I want to teach them to believe in themselves. I'm blessed to be a part of this program.

Westin Kieschnick, Varsity Assistant

I coach defensive line and work to implement the team's strength and conditioning program. This year marks my 5th year with the football team. I am passionate about sport and its potential to positively impact the lives of young people. My passion for youth development extends well beyond the football field and into the classroom. I worked as either a teacher or school leader for 14 years prior to transitioning to my current role as Senior Fellow for one of the nation’s largest publishing firms. My most important roles are as husband to my wife Molly and father to our two children Everett and Charlotte. The love and support of my wife allows me to coach and mentor young men so that in some small way I can give back to a community I love. Be on the lookout for my kids on game nights. Everett will be the one running around looking for someone to tackle. Charlotte is the one running from Everett. They are my world, so if you see them…please send them back to their mother. She’s loud and probably wearing a button with my face on it. You can’t miss her. Go Chargers!

This is Coach Gilbert’s 6th year coaching football at Chatfield high school. He looks forward to teaching the kids how to become winners on & off the field. Before coaching at Chatfield, he coached at the youth level & was fortunate enough to be part of many championship teams. His son Brayden Gilbert, whom he’s most proud of graduated from Chatfield and is now attending Mesa University. Scott Baliko, Freshmen Assistant

“The Boys of Fall” As fall is nearing, we start hearing the sounds of pads cracking and cheers from our fans. Charger football nation is BACK, Jack! This is my first year coaching. I grew up in Farmington Hills Michigan, where I played multiple sports: football, baseball and wrestling. I attended Farmington Hills Harrison High School. In 1991 we won the 2B State Championship, where I played center and tackle on both sides of the ball. I Attended Eastern Michigan University, the summer after my first year at EMU I went to spend the summer with my grandparents in Maine, fell in love with the way of life and became a commercial fisherman. In doing so I met my wife Sue. Due to changes in the fishing industry we relocated to Michigan where I was a commissioning engineer in the auto industry. The tragedy of 9-11-2001 changed the auto industry drastically, therefore it was time for another journey. My daughter Sierra 14 (Freshman at Chatfield) was due to be born so we chose Colorado to be near family. Here I was working as a high speed robotic technician until complications which has resulted in the unfortunate diagnosis of MS forced early retirement upon me. I have always loved football and look forward to sharing my knowledge, time and passion to the young up and coming Chargers! Looking forward to a great year “GO CHARGERS”

I attended the University of Northern Colorado from 2010-2014 obtaining a Bachelors degree in Psychology. I originally attended UNC with an Army ROTC scholarship straight out of high school, but blew out my knee and had 6 surgeries over the course of the next two years, causing me to change my life plans. I'm currently attending Denver Seminary, working towards my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, along with a certificate in School Counseling. My goal upon graduation is to become a high school counselor and continue to coach high school sports. Outside of football, I enjoy spending time with my wife Hope. She is also attending Denver Seminary, working towards her Masters while working with Cru. I just want to thank my wife for being supportive of my desire to coach football this season. It was actually through Hope's family that I learned about Coach McGatlin and the program at Chatfield, and I'm excited to be a part of this amazing family.
